A few years ago, the world’s largest gem-quality tsavorite was discovered near Arusha, Tanzania. The uncut gemstone for thin small love bracelet with 6 diamonds was brought into the gemstone, weighing 185 grams, and was inspected by Dr. H. Hanni of the Swiss Gemological Institute.
It was performed, cut, and certified by Dr. A. Peretti of GRS Gemresearch Swisslab in Bangkok, Thailand. The extraordinary clean tsavorite oval shape that remains after cutting is designated by the Gemological Institute of America as G 4/5-G 4/6 (medium tone, from strong to vivid saturation)
It measures 42.11 mm x 36.46 mm x 28.34 mm and weighs 325.14 carats. It is still the largest and most valuable gem ever found in East Africa.
